PROJECT SPECIFICATION:
Over 15 000 luminaires exchanged
51% energy savings
Dedicated solutions
Lima — a dynamic city of over 10 million inhabitants located between the Pacific Ocean and the slopes of the Andes — has been developing rapidly for years, modernising its public spaces and infrastructure to meet the growing needs of its residents. Historic districts, densely urbanised thoroughfares and modern housing estates coexist here, creating an urban fabric with a huge demand for effective lighting.
Lima is struggling with high traffic volumes, rapid urban development and rising energy costs. The modernisation of road lighting has become a key element of infrastructure transformation, both in terms of efficiency and user safety. The project involved a large-scale replacement of lighting, carried out in stages, which allows for a consistent increase in the city's energy efficiency without interfering with its daily functioning.
• Providing optimal, normative solutions that would significantly improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians
• The need to prepare a Smart-Ready solution that can be implemented in stages while maintaining the continuity of the infrastructure
• Achieving satisfactory energy savings
• Adapting the luminaire design to local requirements, including consistent visual identity
• Optimised lighting designs from LUG, ensuring standard lighting with the lowest possible number of variations, which facilitated logistics
• Delivery of all luminaires in Smart-Ready standard, ready for system integration as well as first LMS integration on 240 lighting points
• Supply of high-efficiency luminaires, ensuring over 50% savings
• Dedicated products to meet the urban planning requirements of the city
The most important effects:
• Most importantly, new, beter light leads to increased safety of all citizens and high CRI>70 in LED luminaires allows for better operation of the CCTV system of the city
• New lighting also brings efficacy, providing average 51% energy savings for all modernised lighting points
• Higher light levels also lead to increased visual comfort for all road users, reducing the risk of car accidents
• Furthermore, first 240 pcs. of luminaires were already integrated with LUG URBAN LMS from BIoT, allowing for optimizing and automation of lighting management
The modernisation of street lighting in Lima is one of the largest urban infrastructure transformation processes in the region and, at the same time, a textbook example of a properly executed project. The replacement of luminaires with LEDs has translated into real operational, financial and social benefits, as well as an improvement in the quality of life of residents.
Example of return on investment at one of the stages:

In addition, the innovative luminaires used do not emit any light into the upper hemisphere, thus meeting the most important requirements regarding night sky pollution (Dark Sky).
The modernisation in Lima is further confirmation that replacing lighting with LED lighting results in a real reduction in energy costs and a long-term improvement in the quality of urban infrastructure.
